Who we are

A distinctive identity

Cash for trash makes it available for EVERYONE to provide for themselves and their families. No longer do people have to go to bed hungry. The only thing they need to do is pick up some trash from the street during the day, put it in a trashbag and deliver it at our drop-off point. With the trash that people bring in they can buy themselves food in our own small grocery store.

This project provides a solution that is empowering and creates a culture of social responsibility among our participants. They “do something to get something”, rather than getting handouts, while at the same time uplifting and “greening” their community.

Cash for Trash Durban is officially open!

After months of preperation our first Cash for trash project opened his doors! Cash for trash Durban is situated in a poor Community in Hammarsdale, and is hosted by the Codah organisation. This organisation serves around 150 people, the poorest of the poor, by handing out bread twice a week and giving them education. This small group got very excited when we launched the project. At the moment they are handing in around 800 trashbags on a weekly basis! Even small kids of only seven years old are bringing trashbags to get themself some porridge to survive the week. Just imagine a community getting cleaner and cleaner and people with a smile on their face! You can become the most important link in our project, read below how!
